Encouragment to set goals for this summer

Its hard to come up with goals in our lives.  You may have read the last blog I had about the life of Peter and may be asking yourself, "okay, so I need to recognize that I am a changed person, but what do I do?"  That has always been on my mind.  I feel like I want to do so many things on this earth and just keep adding to my "bucket" list of things to do.  I was reading through some blogs and have some ideas that I would like to challenge myself, and whoever reads my blog, or perhaps just this one, to set at least 5 goals for yourself from now until summer is over.

1. Start by thinking of ways that will help you grow more.  Whether you are a Christian reading this or not, we all need to grow in some areas.  Maybe you need to set up some financial plans and just do not find the time.  If your like this, I encourage you to set limits on finances and make a financial plan for every pay check.  Or say you have so many thoughts running through your head that you do not know what to do with them.  Try starting a blog, throw your ideas out there and see what people think of them.  I encourage you to start small in this to, do not set goals that you know are to high for you.

2.  Make goals that will help build yourself up.  Well, this one is kind of a no brainier, but a lot of people start making goals that they will raise so much money to help the poor in Africa.  It is very hard to come up with money like that, especially if you are just starting.  But, if feeding the hungry is your passion, get a group of people together and set goals to help out organizations that do these things. Start small and build yourself up this summer.  Do not make this summer so hard for you, but make it so that you can grow.
3.  Make it count.  I remember my first goal was to get a mentor, meet with them every week and journal and pray every day.  That is a good goal to have, but when I have never journaled or ever have a mentor, or even pray every day, that goal can get pretty hard on you.  So, I instead began with journaling my thoughts and it has helped me so much to grow to the other things that I wanted to do.  I also had a goal to try writing and to build a financial plan.  Well, I am not going for an English degree and I have never built a "financial plan" before, so where did I start?  I started to write these blogs and it has helped me improve my own writing, and not be afraid of putting my ideas out there.  With my financial plan, I began putting limits on my spending and to begin building a "budget".  Before starting this financial plan, I never knew what a budget was, now I feel better about my money and where it is going!
If you want to set a goal for yourself, make it worth your while.  Make it something that you are passionate about.  Let yourself be challenged and allow yourself to grow over this summer.
One last thing, I will at times be posting once a week how I am doing on my five goals (once I figure them out myself).  I encourage you, if you feel lead, to also post your goals and how you are doing in them (more of an accountability thing.  No one has to do this, I may be the only one typing out my goals, but if you wish, just comment on the post.  I encourage you, let yourself be challenged and grow and find your identity and make it useful.
