I remember when my mom and dad divorced and they were both fighting for position to who gets to keep me and my brother at their home. When my mother finally won custody, the fighting never ended. Each one was trying to do something to keep us at their home. It was nice for awhile, but then we had to start keeping secrets from the other. My mom would be buying or going to some really nice places, and my dad was doing the sames things that my mom did not like around us.
So, can you find how much they loved me and my brother in this situation? Not a lot of people do (I know I sure did not). Everything is more relaxed now that we are older and grown up. I have gained a lot of respect for my family throughout the years. I see that they would not have wanted to keep us around if they did not truly love us.
A better illustration to this trusting love is the message of Jesus Christ. One that we do not like to hear about because we cannot explain to one another why this man got on a cross to die for our sins unless he truly loved us. Some of us will not get it and may never get why he has done such a thing. But, for those who do, it is amazing to see their heart burst with so much love for others and a greater love for God.
I struggle with this question now and again because I cannot get my mind wrapped around this idea. I ask myself, how can this divine Son of Man become an offering for my sinfulness. The only answer that keeps coming to mind is when I went up to confess my doubting thoughts to a professor at MVNU. He simply said to me, "Jesus is at the door of your heart saying: 'I love you, I love you, I love you'". If we can just open our hearts up to this, I think a lot of people will understand what love really is and most certainly change the world.
